Media Release 2 - Dilogian Soldier
Sunday, 17 May 2009 21:39
The Dilogian Army is a body as old as the Empire it serves, indeed, the brave men that comprise its ranks played no small part in forming the Dilogian Empire in the first place. It holds a place of pride among the Empire's ancient institutions, a force of well-organised and well-drilled professional fighting men who protect the heartlands of the Empire from threats both internal and external. All male citizens of the Dilogian empire undergo two years of compulsory military training once they reach adulthood, many of whom continue into active military service. Even among those who do not, there is respect and admiration for the brave fighting men of Dilogus and their tireless efforts to safeguard the lives of their friends and families back home.

But the valiant soldiers of the army cannot be everywhere at once. Each province raises and maintains their own fighting regiments, sending them beyond their borders only in times of national need, and the troops in the frontier provinces of the Empire often find themselves patrolling vast swathes of inhospitable land. It is here, in the deep forests of Meliovne province or the steep mountains between the Thirum and Dhret'thur provinces, that banditry and lawlessness is rife. The bandits simply melt into the countryside when the soldiers arrive and return only days after the army is called elsewhere, leaving many isolated towns under the protection of watchmen and guardsmen scarcely more organised than the bandits themselves.

The concepts above (courtesy of a new member of the FusionSoft team, Diego) is of a light infantryman in the Dilogian army, the kind that will feature regularly to support the player character. The mod is set in the heavily-wooded regions of the Meliovne province (mentioned above), a place where cavalry is worthless and bands of outlaws roam the forests and men like this are often the only thing standing between frontier towns and the looting and pillaging that the bandits would surely commit if allowed. The next stage for this concept is for it to be turned into a model and animated accordingly, and adapted to reflect the various types of Dilogian soldiers you will be encountering in your journeys across the Empire.

Until next time,
FusionSoft team.

More ruins lie abandoned beside the treacherous road... A cliff face rises above the stagnant waters of the swamp...
